The Foothills Wellness Collective offers a variety of trauma informed traditional and holistic therapeutic modalities, as well as mentoring and professional development opportunities that integrate land based learning across the programs.

After working for many years in the education and healthcare systems, we have experienced first-hand the impact of mental health and addiction challenges such as trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use, self-harm, suicide with individuals across the lifespan and the lack of accessible publicly funded programs to support them with their healing and recovery.

As a response, the Foothills Wellness Collective has created programs and services to support individuals on their path to wellness and for professionals to enhance their skill sets to improve their effectiveness with clients.
Please see below for more information on these offerings.

Psychological Services
We offer a unique and comprehensive psychotherapy model that is relationally based, rooted in trauma-informed principles, effective and deeply respectful of clients, horses, practitioners and nature. It is an experiential approach to psychotherapy and mental health for individuals, couples, families and groups.

Equine Facilitated Learning
Equine Facilitated Learning is part of a rapidly growing industry in which trained professionals and horses partner to foster healing and to provide learning and therapeutic growth opportunities for people.
During the various programs and sessions that are offered, individuals’ partner with a horse and participate in various experiential activities that are chosen based on their specific needs. It is through the time spent in these activities that reflective work is done, which allows individuals to learn more about themselves, their capabilities, their strengths, and challenges, and eventually start addressing and working through the changes they are looking to make for themselves.

Professional Development
The Foothills Wellness Collective is excited to provide professional development opportunities for helping professionals, educators and equine wellness professionals. Over the past few years, there has been an increase in the demand for professional development and staff wellness supports, and an even greater demand due to the pandemic, that has lead to increased workloads, burnout and less time for self-care. Many of us serve as caregivers both in our work and our personal lives which can bring significant professional and personal gratification and joy as well as stress and other emotional burdens, especially if we do not have the opportunity to take care of ourselves.
The purpose of our professional development offerings are to give professionals the space to connect with themselves and others and to learn and apply new knowledge and skills in a nurturing and supportive environment. We are also building a community for professionals to come together to connect, consult and collaborate.

Mentoring
Mentoring is a relationship which supports learning and experimentation and helps individuals build their skills, abilities and develop their confidence. A mentoring relationship is one where both mentor and mentee recognize the need and desire for personal growth and development.

At the Foothills Wellness Collective, we offer mentoring opportunities for both mental health professionals as well as equine facilitated wellness professionals.

Energy Healing
Energy healing refers to any healing method that aims at restoring the balance and flow of energy throughout the body, mind, and soul. These practices can help support the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of well-being in an individual. Energy healing modalities look to address the causes of the disturbance of the energy flow in the body. Once the energy flows become balanced again, the organ and body systems will be able to work correctly and efficiently to help the body heal itself.

We offer a variety of energy healing modalities that can be incorporated into unique healing sessions with or without our equine teachers. These could include Reiki, Acupressure, Jin Shin Jyutsu, 3-D Healing Hypnosis, Aromatherapy, Crystal Balancing and Sound Healing.

Equine-Eco-Psychotherapy (EEP)

Equine-Eco-Psychotherapy (EEP) is a therapeutic approach that combines the practices of equine facilitated learning (EFL), ecotherapy (also known as nature based therapy) and traditional psychotherapy. EEP incorporates aspects of the body-mind connection and acknowledges how our thoughts and emotions affect our daily life experience and overall state of health.

EEP practices incorporate our relationship with the natural world (can be inclusive of animals, plants, water and land) to enhance our growth, development and healing, while bringing awareness to the link between human and environmental health. Common elements of EEP therapies include: mindfulness, a focus on improving attachment and relationships with ourselves, others and the natural world, emotional awareness and regulation, as well as developing self-awareness,
self-confidence and self-esteem.

EEP can be experienced individually or as part of a group in workshops or multi-week programs.
